As of Thursday May 6, 2011, the legislators of the state of Alabama have become enablers to the harsh, disgustingly racist and discriminatory immigration laws of Arizona’s SB1070. The bill will allow law enforcers to ask for proof or verification on immigration status from any person that they believe to be here illegally. It also forbids any U.S. citizen to give a ride to, house, employ, or to rent to any person that they know or suspect to be an “illegal citizen.” While these laws are supposedly passed to keep U.S. citizens safe and sound, all they are really doing is giving already revved up and racist people the power to discriminate, judge, humiliate, beat, rape and kill our people…all with the law on THEIR SIDE. This is ridiculous, and seeing that our very own Georgia, along with Utah, South Carolina, Michigan, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Rhode Island have already introduced bills similar to SB1070, the issue doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. So what do we do about it? We continue to protest, to picket, and to demonstrate. We continue to make calls and write letters to our senators, governors, and other people that hold political offices. We continue to have pride in ourselves, our cultures, and our families, amidst the foggy days ahead. We continue to be ourselves!
