Love is in the air! It’s February! This means Valentine’s Day is coming! And it’s so great! Except, you’re single… Sorry for the reminder.
February can be one of the most depressing months of the year for single people, because of all the gushy-mushy-lovey-dovey stuff all over the place. You’d have to live in a soundproof room with no windows to avoid all that stuff! But, really, there are a lot of things you can do on Valentine’s Day that can make you feel much more fulfilled than getting or giving a teddy bear and a box of chocolates. How about being outwardly focused and give this season rather than wait to be given to? Here are some ideas that you can do by yourself or grab a group of single friends and do together!
1. Make Valentine’s Day goodie bags and take them to a hospital to hand to patients. Look at http://www.craftsunleashed.com/bridal-party/valentines-day-treat-bags/ for one goodie bag idea.
2. Visit a nursing home and spend some time with elderly people. They definitely could use the lovin’! Go to http://www.dosomething.org/user/login?destination=node/731167 to see what they have going on for the elderly.
3. Are you an animal lover? Adopt a pet for the day! Go play with them or take them for a walk. This is WAY better than getting a fake, cotton stuffed animal that’s going to sit on your shelf and collect dust. Just check out your local animal shelter.
4. Treat yourself to something you enjoy! Watch your favorite movie with your own chocolate dipped strawberries, or play your favorite Wii game!
5. Grab one of your good friends, make Valentine cards, place them in random mail boxes and then go out to eat.
6. Go through a drive-thru and pay for the person behind you as a Valentine’s Day gift.
7. Carry Valentine thank you cards for the whole day and everywhere you go give one to whoever serves you! The barista at your coffee shop, the cashier at the grocery store, etc. Look at the creative Valentine’s Day cards at http://www.buzzfeed.com/pippa/40-unconventional-valentines-day-cards-5ocb.
8. Sign up for a race that you can find at http://www.runnersworld.com/race-finder/results?miles=100&city=kennesaw&state=GA&zip=30144&date_range[start]=2014-02-01&date_range[end]=2015-01-31 and run for a cause you believe in!
9. Baby-sit for free for a married couple to give them the night off on Valentine’s Day and a break from the kids.
10. Last, but not least, take some time to reflect on how you can be content and make the most of your singlehood. Write down reasons to be grateful this February and remember that being single isn’t the worst thing that could happen. It's actually a pretty exciting thing! Enjoy it!
These are only some ideas of what to do this Valentine’s Day as a single person! Share any other ideas you can think of!
Yours truly,
Violeta
XOXO ;)
